Orange County Businesses Make Two Different State Agency Lists of Tax Delinquents
One good list of the largest tax delinquents in Orange County deserves another, no? The California Franchise Tax Board and state Board of Equalization have separately listed the companies that are most delinquent in ponying up taxes. Unlike on the personal income tax delinquent list, none in OC made top 10 of either agency's list.
That's because at No. 11 on the FTB list of corporate tax delinquents (and therefore No. 1 in OC) you'll find Building Blocks Pediatric Home Health Services, Inc. of Aliso Viejo. The crew headed by CEO Ronald Mills owes Uncle Jerry $837,246.23, according to the agency.

At No. 21, according to the FTB, is Dimitris Restaurant, which is said to owe $452,030.88. John D. Gantes, CEO of the Rancho Santa Margarita-based seafood restaurant company founded in 1959, in 2009 filed Chapter 11 petitions for some of his then-110 restaurants (including all four Ventura County Applebee's). Gantes then filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy for himself and his wife.
You'll find Kuma Enterprises, Inc. of San Juan Capistrano at No. 42 on the FTB list. According to the Secretary of State's office, Darryl Goya was CEO of the company that incorporated 12 years ago but is no longer active.

Way down much farther is Newport Beach's Daniel Sadek, who owes $417,078.53, according to the BOE. Close readers may recall the sub-prime mortgage king-turned movie producer had an interesting 2009.
In January of that year, an Orange County Register investigation found Sadek owed $2.3 million for unpaid taxes, mortgages and homeowner association dues. That didn't count $134,467 an Orange County Superior Court judgment filed that same month said Sadek owed the Bellagio Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas. That September, Vanity Fair ranked Sadek No. 86 on a list of institutions and people most to blame for the nation's economic problems. The following month, he declared bankruptcy in Nevada, which should not have been a surprise given his Quick Loan Funding had been sued 13 times locally the previous two years, he lost a home in Irvine after he defaulted on a loan from Citibank, and his movie Redline, which cost him $31 million to make, distribute and publicize, only earned $8.2 million in ticket sales worldwide. Around 3 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning of '09, a Mercedes Benz CLK 550 that did not belong to Sadek burned in the driveway of his new multi-million-dollar pad off Pelican Ridge in Newport Coast, where the house and garage were singed. Late at night a couple weeks later, three armed men entered Sadek's home, bound the nine occupants, conked three of them on the head with firearms and stole watches, wallets, cell phones, cash and other valuables. (A half dozen or so men were quickly arrested.) Later that same December, the owner of an Irvine real estate appraisal firm that was Quick Loan Funding's principal lender was charged with conspiracy to commit fraud by inflating property appraisal values to secure more business with lending institutions.
Sadek was not personally implicated in that case, but everything that happened that year should have been the movie!
