Despite law enforcement sweeps at Occupy camps from San Diego to Oakland to New York City, Occupy Orange County remains determined to keep the movement alive. With Thursday being billed as an International Day of Direct Action, local Occupiers plan on marching and protesting at multiple locations in Santa Ana and Irvine.
“This action by the NYPD is going to make people come out stronger,” said Irvine activist D'Marie Mulattieri referring to the raid this morning in Zuccotti Park. “I'm hoping this will make more people come out and demonstrate.”

The former executive assistant says Occupy Orange County Irvine has plans to start their actions on Thursday at 3 p.m., near Main Street and Von Karman Avenue, where the group has protested corporate greed and its influence on politics multiple times during the past month. This will be followed by a protest in solidarity with moveon.org at the John Wayne Airport and MacArthur Boulevard connector bridge.
There, the action will be focused on the upcoming congressional “Super Committee” which will vote next week on how to cut the nation's deficit by $1.2 trillion. Moveon.org, a liberal non- profit organization, is concerned the Super Committee could announce a proposal for billions of dollars in “job-killing cuts.”
Meanwhile, activists in Santa Ana will march at 11 a.m. along with members of the Service Employees International Union Local 721. The march will launch from the Occupy Santa Ana home base, located at the Walk of Honor near the intersection of Broadway and Civic Center Drive. The group has dubbed the promenade there Liberation Plaza, or Plaza de Liberación.
After their morning march, Santa Ana supporters will join Occupy Irvine at their protest near the airport.
