As a county evolves, there are some positions that eventually become obsolete, renamed, or absorbed by another position. Take county statistician. That would be today here…um, for the whole county? Like, for everything? Doesn't exist anymore in OC. How about Aid Commissioner? God, what kind of aid are we talking about? Illegals? Senior? Housing? AIDS? Too many to county.
But those were positions that existed in Orange County during the 1920s–and county statistician and county aid commissioner were positions that Walter S. Gregg held in his career as an OC bureaucrat.

Gregg was part of the Klan's initial forays into Orange County, in the early 1920s. What's interesting to note is that Gregg worked in the same building as OC DA Alex P. Nelson, the crusading lawman who eventually drove the Klan out of Orange County and into the Republican Party. Wonder how THOSE talks at the urinals went…
