Lawyers for Trinity Christian Center of Santa Ana, the nonprofit that runs Trinity Broadcasting Network of Costa Mesa (TBN), are expected to file motions today as part of its defense of a lawsuit brought by Carra Crouch, the granddaughter of Paul and Jan Crouch, who claims she was raped at age 13 and that the ministry covered it up.
The crime allegedly happened one night in a Georgia hotel room during TBN's spring Praise-a-Thon, and the Orange County Register reports that both sides agree the then-teen and a then-30-year-old man smoked a cigarette together on the balcony, drank Champagne in her room and watched a movie on her bed.
Trinity claims Carra, who is now 21, was foolish to let the man in her room but that she fell asleep and the encounter ended there. She claims the man fondled her, tried to kiss her, gave her a glass of water that she suspects was laced with a drug that made her pass out and that when she awoke, she suspected she had been raped. But when she reported it Jan Crouch and another minister, they did not inform police as required by law but made the girl out to have brought the events on herself, according to the complaint.
Crouch sued Trinity in 2012, alleging sexual battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligence. It came amid internal legal squabbles involving other members of the Crouch family, including Carra's sister Brittany Crouch Koper, Trinity's former treasurer, who accused her family of squandering millions of the ministry's money. Trinity had accused her and her husband of embezzling at least $1 million.
Authorities are seeking other possible victims of Richard Nolan Green, a former teacher's aide for at-risk students in Orange and a defendant charged with having sex with a 15-year-old girl. He did not meet her on an Orange campus but through family friends and began the sexual relationship in June, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department, which was contacted by the girl's parents.
Green, 28, of Yorba Linda, was arrested on Oct. 11 and four days later resigned from his part-time position as an instructional assistant for special education with the Orange Unified School District, according to Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Ed Kissee. Green had been assigned to Touch Stones, a residential treatment facility for adolescents with alcohol and drug problems.
Charged with statutory rape, committing a lewd act on a child and oral copulation of a minor younger than 16, Green is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 6. A conviction could send him to state prison for four years and four months.
He posted $100,000 bail and is out of custody. A protective order has been issued preventing Green from having contact with the girl or visiting her school.

A woman was walking with a friend near 4th Street and Orange Avenue in Long Beach around 2 a.m. on Nov. 9 when a man ran up behind her and slapped her butt. It got worse. When she confronted him, he exposed himself, wrapped himself around her and then ran away.
The Long Beach Police Department received a call about a similar crime on Nov. 15. Again, around 2 a.m., a different woman was walking with a small group of people when a man ran up behind her, pushed her to the ground and sexually assaulted her.
An investigation somehow zeroed in on Miguel Avila as the suspect, and the 19-year-old Long Beach resident was arrested on Nov. 17 for the assaults and for allegedly violating his parole for a sex-related offense. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's office has charged Avila with three counts of felony sexual assault and a count of failure to register.
At last word, Avila was being held on $355,000 bail. A 55-year-old Phoenix man is accused of having molested several teenage boys while he was a member of the Mormon church, beginning in the 1970s, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Daniel Montoya was arrested by Long Beach detectives in Phoenix on Oct. 6, flown back to Los Angeles County and held in the Men's Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles in lieu of $1.25 million bail, according to police.
Montoya pleaded guilty in 1986 to molesting two teenage boys who were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Long Beach. He cut a plea deal that got him probation and an order to register as a sex offender.
More victims have come forward since, saying they were too embarrassed to go public earlier. In September, the LA County District Attorney's Office filed three sexual assault-related counts against Montoya and an arrest warrant was issued.
It was discovered Montoya never registered as a sex offender, neither in California nor Arizona, according to police.
A lawsuit filed in Orange County Superior Court claims two teenage boys were molested by a South County Jehovah's Witness church leader during their middle school and high school years in the 1990s.
The suit, which identifies the victims as “John Roe 1 and John Roe 2” and their alleged tormentor as “Doe 3” or “Perpetrator,” alleges sexual abuse and negligence and seeks unspecified damages from the local and national church organizations.
Identified as a baptized “publisher,” ministerial servant and “pioneer” within the church, Doe 3 was assigned to give private bible lessons to John Roe 1 and met John Roe 2 when the two were assigned to do “field service” for the church, according to the complaint.
Doe 3 brought the boys to his house separately, gave each mixed drinks, undressed in front of them, showered with them and touched them sexually, the complaint states. John Roe 1, who is now 29, claims to have been abused from the sixth through ninth grades, while John Roe 2, now 31, says he was abused from the eighth through 11th grades.
John Roe 2 says he told the Elders he wanted to call the police, but the Elders said they preferred to handle the matter “in house.” Doe 3 was “disfellowshipped,” but cops were never told, according to the complaint.
The men say what caused them to come forward was the Jerry Sandusky scandal at Penn State University.
