The following is the first of several posts this morning that deal with defendants accused of sexually assaulting or exploiting children and women. Up first is Robert Ruben Ornleas, who is accused in a six count federal indictment of: going to the Philippines to have sex with two girls under the age of 18; shooting pornographic images of one of them when she was 13 and another when she was 8 to 10 years old and again when she was 14; and having and sharing child porn on his computer of at least one who had not reached the age of 12.

The grand jury indictment filed Nov. 5 at the Reagan federal courthouse in Santa Ana indicates that the 63-year-old former teacher, day-care worker and girls softball coach is also known as “rrocorp2003” and “rr*****@ea*******.net” (although we still prefer Sideshow Bob).
Count No. 1 alleges the Santa Ana resident went to the Philippines to have sex with a 13-year-old girl between September and October of 2008. Another count accuses Ornelas of having produced pornographic images of her while overseas.
Three counts center on a second girl in the Philippines. Ornelas allegedly shot porn of her when she was age 8 to 10 between March 2006 and October 2008; and again between March and April of 2012 when she was 14. He is also accused of having sex with her during that second stay overseas.
The sixth and final count accuses Ornelas, in June 2013, of having possessed and shared on his computer a pornographic image of at least one girl who had not yet reached the age of 12. All the federal counts against him carry a maximum sentence of 80 years in federal prison, according to authorities.
As the Weekly earlier reported, the case against Ornelas began when child porn was found on his computer by his brother, who called the cops. That led to a state case against Ornelas that alleges he sexually assaulted a female relative, starting when she was 5 years old, in the 1990s.
Two felony counts of lewd acts on a child with sentencing enhancement allegations for substantial sexual conduct with a child could earn him a 10-year state prison sentence, according to authorities.
