Michael Anthony Aparicio Charged with Special Circumstances Murder for Halloween Slaying

UPDATE NO. 3, NOV. 9, 12:20 P.M.: Michael Anthony Aparicio is scheduled to be arraigned on a special circumstances murder charge today for allegedly strangling 61-year-old Floyd Taylor Jr. to death inside a Stanton motel room Halloween morning, the Orange County District Attorney's office announced. Aparicio, 27, of Anaheim, could get life in state prison without the possibility of parole if he is convicted of felony special circumstances murder with a sentencing enhancement allegation for murder during the commission of a robbery.

Around 6:15 a.m. on Oct. 31, Aparicio met Taylor inside his motel room at the Chester Inn in Stanton, where surveillance footage viewed later showed Taylor left his room alone but returned twice within the next hour, the OCDA says. After the last time Taylor returned, Aparicio allegedly wrapped a bungee cord around the older man's neck, strangled him, placed a pillow over the victim's face and pulled the bed covers up over the body before taking Taylor's wallet and fleeing the scene, prosecutors claim. Aparicio is accused of trying to use Taylor's Supplemental Security Income (SSI) card at a gas station in Garden Grove the next day, but the card was declined. Aparicio next allegedly gave the SSI card to an acquaintance, explaining he had found a wallet, states the OCDA, noting the acquaintance attempted to use the card at a bowling alley later that day. The prosecution statement makes no mention of Nicole Marie Aranda, who was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the Taylor slaying as well as outstanding warrants, the sheriff's department announced at the time. Aranda, 20, of Anaheim, remains in custody, according to jail records. Aparicio is to be arraigned some time today at the Central Jail in Santa Ana.

UPDATE NO. 2, NOV. 6, 11:08 A.M.: Floyd Keith Taylor Jr., the 61-year-old found dead Halloween morning in his room at Stanton's Chester Inn, was a registered sex offender, sheriff's homicide investigators confirmed for the Weekly. Online records indicate a man by that name and of that age was convicted in 2001 of lewd acts with a child under age 14 and released from custody in 2006.

UPDATE NO. 1, NOV. 6, 9:36 A.M.: Two people have been arrested in connection with the murder of Floyd Keith Taylor Jr., the 61-year-old found dead Halloween morning in his room at Stanton's Chester Inn, the Orange County Sheriff's Department announced. Video surveillance images from the area of the motel at 10890 Beach Blvd. led homicide investigators to suspect that Michael Anthony Aparicio, 27, and Nicole Marie Aranda, 20, both of Anaheim, were involved in Taylor being found bleeding with significant traumatic injuries to his upper body on Saturday, says Lt. Jeff Hallock, the sheriff's spokesman. Deputies located Aranda in Westminster on Wednesday, took her in for questioning and arrested her on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon for what went down in the motel as well as for outstanding warrants, “however, additional charges may be filed pending outcome of the ongoing investigation,” Hallock says. She was jailed on a no-bail hold and was due in court today, according to court records. Gang Enforcement deputies found Aparicio sleeping in a car near Anaheim's Swietzer Park on Thursday, arrested him on suspicion of murder and booked him into Orange County Jail, where he was held in lieu of $1 million bail pending an arraignment hearing that's also scheduled for some time today, Hallock says. But, as the spokesman mentioned, this is an ongoing investigation, and anyone with more information is asked to call the sheriff's Homicide Unit at 714.647.7055 or 714.647.7000. Anonymous tips may also be left with Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855.847.6227 (855-TIP-OCCS), via occrimestoppers.org or by texting to 274637 (C-R-I-M-E-S) from a cell phone. 1. get back to you. that’s my father and you have some nerve vanessa. after all you took from our family. HOW DARE YOU! I myself have stiff never recovered and healed from the Trauma this caused me. For you to be so sick and twisted to want to know how he is after you caused so much hurt and devastation. Your sick.

    2. You know sometimes I revisit this article in hopes it’s not real. In hopes that as a kid my eyes we’re wrong and as time went on I was even more wrong. But when I look and it’s still as real as the day I..A LITTLE GIRL whose whole world had been shattered. when i look back i don’t think you truly understand the pain inside my heart. My father was many things and even a monster to me in my life but even with all his wrongs I believed in nothing but the best of him. So it deeply upsets me especially when you out of all people aided in his downfall. not once did you ever try and lift him up and encourage him but instead you ripped him further away from him family, from his children, and from reality. My father and I don’t speak anymore and that is reason of my own but you lady are truly disgusting if you can sit there and so recently to act like you ever gave a damn about my father and his well being. All you ever did was abandon him in his darkest moments.
