Mansour Alhazawbar, Saudi National Studying in Irvine, Murdered on Santa Ana Street

A 21-year-old Saudi national who attended college in Irvine died last Saturday from injuries suffered by being shot while sitting in his car in Santa Ana on Jan. 19.

Mansour Alhazawbar had been parked in the 500 block of South Maxine waiting for a friend around midnight when he was approached by a stranger who demanded all his valuables, according to a Santa Ana Police statement.

After Alhazawbar answered he had nothing to give, he was shot one time in the upper torso before the gunman ran off. The man now considered a murderer was only described as Hispanic with a shaved head.

Alhazawbar, who called police around 12:10 a.m. to say he'd been shot, was later treated at the scene by the Orange County Fire Authority paramedics and taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange for treatment.

The Orange County Coroner's office contacted Santa Ana Police to relate that Alhazawbar died from his injuries at the Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center in Downey at 11:37 a.m. on Jan. 31. What had been a shooting investigation is now an unsolved homicide case.

Alhazawbar was a Saudi national who had studied English at Kaplan International College in Irvine and had been living in Newport Beach, the Orange County Register reports.
