Manhattan Short Film Festival Invades Santa Ana's Frida Cinema THIS WEEKEND
Sundown, which comes from Turkey, is a Manhattan Short Film Festival finalist.
The Manhattan Short Film Festival is presented, of course, in the Big Apple, but to judge the 18th annual event's 10 finalist films, organizers are turning to audiences in more than 250 cities--including Santa Ana--on six continents.
The Frida Cinema in downtown Santa Ana will screen the collection of 10 films from eight countries at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and again at 1, 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
The lineup (and country of origin) includes: Listen (Finland); Dad's In Mum (France); Bear Story (Chile); Forever Over (Germany); Shok (Kosovo); Grounded (France); Sundown (Turkey); Patch (Switzerland); El Camino Solo (USA); and Bis Gleich (Germany).
Dubbed "The World's First Global Film Festival," the event aims to have audiences all over view and judge the work of the next generation of filmmakers. The finalists were whittled down from 672 entries from 52 countries. The short films from Turkey and Kosovo are representing their respective countries for the first time at the Manhattan Short Film Festival.
"In times like these, cross-border events like Manhattan Short that contribute toward greater tolerance and understanding are needed now more than ever," remarked Founding Director Nicholas Mason. "I want to thank and congratulate all the filmmakers and cinemas involved in this global cinematic event. This event is not going to cable TV or Video on Demand. It's not streamed on the Internet. Manhattan Short is about communities bonding together via their local cinema."
Besides best film, cinema-goers will vote for the best actor/actress. Winners will be announced via ManhattanShort.com on Monday, Oct, 5, at 10 a.m. (EST).
