Louie Melendrez Should Have, Ahem, Acquired a Working Car Before Alleged Theft from Store

An important tip to all you drugstore cowboys out there: If you are going to grab a bunch of items from pharmacy shelves before darting out to your car for your getaway, make sure you're current on vehicle maintenance.

Otherwise, you might winds up like happy-go-luckless Louie Melendrez over here at the right.

The 23-year-old is accused of going into the CVS store in the 1200 block of
Beach Boulevard in Stanton around 2 p.m. Monday, grabbing much merchandise from the shelves and running out of the business to his waiting car.

Which would not start.

Store employees called 9-1-1, and when Orange County sheriff's deputies arrived, Melendrez was still sitting in his car. He wasn't alone; also inside were items that minutes earlier had been on CVS shelves.

Melendrez was booked into Orange County Jail on theft charges but, based on his booking photo, at least he seems to have had a sense of humor about the whole thing.
