UPDATE NO. 2, MAY 14, 12:26 P.M.: It's official: "I am here to announce that I am a candidate for the United States Senate," Loretta Sanchez said this morning at the Santa Ana train station, where she was surrounded by family and supporters.

UPDATE NO. 1, MAY 13, 2:16 P.M.: Yesterday, Loretta Sanchez denied the report in our original post that she would announce Thursday her bid to replace U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-California), claiming she was still undecided. Today, spokesman Bill Carrick came just short of confirming everything in the original report, saying the Garden Grove-based congresswoman will make a "significant political announcement" at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Santa Ana train station.

ORIGINAL POST, MAY 13, 6 A.M.: Loretta Sanchez will reportedly announce in Santa Ana Thursday morning that she is officially running for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by fellow California Democrat Barbara Boxer.

The U.S. congresswoman out of Garden Grove will reveal her plans at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Santa Ana train station, where she will be joined by her husband, family and friends, reports the Sacramento Bee's Christopher Cadelego.

Upcoming Events

The political Bee buzzer claims to have obtained an email Sanchez wrote to supporters that vows, "Together we will win." (B-1 Bob Dornan supporters know stranger things have happened.) Standing in Sanchez's way so far is California Attorney General Kamala Harris, who is also a Democrat with name recognition.

Sanchez will get to make her case on friendly grounds Friday, when California Democrats are scheduled to hold their annual convention in Anaheim.
