Longtime Anaheim Baseball Coach Edwin Alan Wikstrom Cops to Sexting Boys

Longtime Anaheim baseball coach Edwin Alan Wikstrom was looking at up to four years in prison after he was arrested in June 2013 on a Lakewood ball diamond, but upon copping to charges of sexting two teenage boys he met through his Katella High School position, the 55-year-old was immediately sentenced to 16 months in jail last week.

The Anaheim resident pleaded guilty to these felonies: four counts of exhibition of lewd material to a minor, two counts of lewd acts on a child 14 or 15, and a count each of possession or control of child pornography, sexual exploitation of a child and using a minor in the sale, distribution of obscene matter or production of pornography.

Between 2011 and 2013, Wikstrom sent sexually explicit text messages on multiple occasions to two boys, ages 16 and 17 at the time and whom he met through his volunteer coaching job at Katella High. A parent of one teen discovered the text messages and reported the case to the Anaheim Police Department, which investigated the case and eventually popped the coach at a game in Lakewood.

His arrest concerned police and prosecutors because Wikstrom has been a baseball coach in Southern California for more than 30 years. Besides Katella High, he had coached with the East Anaheim Little League and in Lakewood.

The judge gave Wikstrom until Feb. 11 to report for his jail sentence.
