Letters From OC Weekly Readers
SOMEWHERE BETWEEN HEAVEN AND HELL
Are they hiring kids to write the articles now [Chasen Marshall's "The Social D Network," Jan. 14]?

It's a mature record. Some decent cuts. Dig the Hank Sr. cover. This has a little taste of "Self-Titled" and "Prison Bound." Good eras for Social Distortion. I can definitely hear it playing in my garage while I'm wrenching on my '49. I miss rock & roll—nice to have it back for a minute.

REMEMBER, FOLKS: THE OC GOP STOOD BY THIS FELON
Five-star work [R. Scott Moxley's Moxley Confidential, "No More Excuses for Mike Carona," Jan. 14]. Congrats on the reporting and being part of the story.

Now you need to further expose all the dirty Republicans who helped with the cover-up of the Little Sheriff, like most of the sitting board of the Orange County Central Committee. And answer this: Why didn't Jon Fleischman or Mike Schroeder's names come up in these investigations?

Wait a minute—he gets to keep his pension? He gets $20,000 per MONTH!?!?!? Thats about what I'm making a YEAR right now. WTF?
Notnebttoblat, via ocweekly.com
I hope the wife, the one he constantly cheated on, has a ball spending his "hard-earned" monthly pension. If it were moi, I'd be scheduling my consultation with a plastic surgeon, redecorating my house and finding a pool boy to service my every whim—payback is a you-know-what.

A special thanks to Moxley and crew for their tenacious investigative journalism that helped to bring this rabid dog down. America is failing in part because the mainstream media is owned and investigative journalism has effectively been neutered for the past two decades. We depend on the media to protect us from tyranny. Unless the major-media venues wake up and do their jobs, we're toast. God help us.

So tell me something: Since they know he was and is a liar in the first place because he's a cop, then why don't they do the same thing to ex-President George W.anker Bush?

Mr. Moxley, thank you for following the Carona story. Your article is superb. We met Carona at a victim's press conference early in his sheriff's career, and we immediately disliked him. When the truth about him finally came out, we were not surprised. Not only was he a creep, but he also surrounded himself with department sycophants, political and business leaders who are still hanging around.
Question: What is the source of the money spent on his defense? We understand a hotshot team of lawyers are supposedly defending him out of the goodness of their hearts, but we think there is more to the story. Who is paying the defense to keep Carona from talking? Thank you again.

FAJITAS . . .
I'm a little miffed you didn't get further into Margaritaville with your answer [Gustavo Arellano's ¡Ask a Mexican! Jan. 14]. Skirting the bulk of his argument only makes his assertions seem more credible, but then you went all horticulturist with your cactus/agave question. Please, Mexican, what gives?
Definitelyeatinb, via ocweekly.com
To Wasting Away In Margaritaville, fajitas aren't Mexican. They're one of those "Mexican" foods, like those freakishly large nachos with sour cream and chives. They don't come from the motherland, but man! Are they delicious!

. . . AND ENCHILADAS
Thank you for the back story on Larry J. Cano and his rise as a restaurateur [Gustavo Arellano's "The Big Enchilada," Jan. 7]. This is the reason why I read OC Weekly: to get a look at what's behind the headline for a more insightful look. Sometimes, it's pleasant; sometimes, it's shocking. Thank you for bringing it to us.
I might decide to go into El Torito the next time I drive by my favorite local one on Yorba Linda Boulevard and Kraemer in Placentia. Not really a fan of the food these days, but I do admire and respect this man's success story, especially the P-51 Mustang bit. Thank you for shedding some light on a restaurant chain I grew up with as a kid, don't go to anymore, but perhaps might start stopping by for a taquito or perhaps Taco Tuesday again.
