Let Us Prey: 8 Men of God Accused or Convicted of Sex Crimes with Kids

You know who is gonna get you.EXPAND
You know who is gonna get you.

People prayed, were saved and for the most part had positive experiences at Orange County's places of worship this year.

However, it was also a period when several associated with local churches and temples were arrested or convicted of preying on children, teens and young adults, according to authorities.

We're about to show you eight of these men.

Keep in mind that being arrested without being convicted means you are innocent until proven otherwise.

Cases like these have also been known to fall apart, including instances where allegations turn out to be groundless.

By the same token, a conviction by a judge or jury means you are guilty in the eyes of the law.

As for in the eyes of you-know-who? God knows ...

The former youth counselor at Vineyard Church in Anaheim was arraigned in federal court in Santa Ana in June for allegedly using peer-to-peer file sharing technology to possess and distribute child pornography. A conviction could send the 32-year-old to federal prison for 20 to 50 years, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). A search warrant executed at Hartman's Newport Beach home in February led to the recovery of more than 300 still images and in excess of 400 videos containing child porn, with some videos featuring children as young as 8 or 9, according to the Orange County Child Exploitation Task Force. The U.S. Attorney's office is prosecuting.

California Highway Patrol officers say they found the girl and 24-year-old Ren in a vehicle parked on a turn-out near Running Springs, and San Bernardino County sheriff's investigators claim she told them the sexual relationship began two months earlier. The man and girl engaged in several sexual acts in the counties of Orange, Los Angeles and San Bernardino, investigators allege. Originally facing two felonies, Ren was slapped with 10 more in August, and prosecutors say he could go to state prison for up to eight years if convicted.

The former Sunday school teacher at Christ Church by the Sea in Newport Beach and Rock Harbor Church in Costa Mesa was sentenced in September to 60 years to life in state prison for sexually assaulting five boys and trying to do the same to a sixth. The 51-year-old recruited many of the boys he met through the churches, relatives and his Costa Mesa apartment complex to help with his pool cleaning business. McKenzie blamed his affinity for young boys on drug addiction. A victim's relative told Orange County Superior Court Judge Patrick Donahue that McKenzie should be castrated.
