Leonard Nimoy Remembered with Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan Screening THURSDAY
The Frida Cinema

The Frida Cinema in Santa Ana will remember the recently passed Leonard Nimoy with a Thursday night screening of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. (KHHHAAAAAANNNNN!)

You Trekkies (or is Trekkers more politically correct?) will recall that the 1982 film was a continuation of the 1967 television episode "Space Seed," which ended with the crew of The Enterprise leaving megalomaniac Khan (Ricardo Montalban) stranded on a remote planet. Star Trek II picks up the action years later, when Khan seeks revenge from Capt. James T. Kirk and the original crew members.

It's being shown in downtown Santa Ana in remastered DCP and thanks to Paramount Pictures, whose reps are credited with "quick assistance in making this presentation available to our audiences" from Frida Cinema director Logan Crow.

"The explosion of mourning and fond remembrances across social media this morning are a testament to the immeasurable impact that Nimoy's iconic character Spock has had all around the world," Crow wrote upon the renaissance man's death on Feb. 27. "Beyond his skills as an actor, Nimoy was a filmmaker--most notably for the 1987 hit Three Men and a Baby--poet, photographer, and singer, but no doubt his lasting legacy will that of that strange, stoic man with the deep voice and the pointy ears.

"Join us as we celebrate an entertainer who gave the world one of its most iconic, intriguing, and unique characters, and who left us all with one of our most cherished and inspiring blessings--Live long, and prosper ..."

The joining begins at 8 p.m. Thursday at The Frida, 305 E. Fourth St., Santa Ana. For ticket info, visit http://thefridacinema.org/event/star-trek-ii-the-wrath-of-khan/.
