Laguna Canyon Foundation Turns 25 So It's Time to Party On, Garth

Anyone turning 25 would love to celebrate with a party and live band, and the Laguna Canyon Foundation is no different, although Sunday's 3-6 p.m. birthday time would be better suited for an 85th birthday party.

Think Globally, Read Locally: Wild and Beautiful Orange County

Not that I'd personally want to be tying one on in pitch-dark outdoorness surrounded by coyotes, mountain lions and golliwoggles (oh my!).

Speaking of keeping it wild, that's what the nonprofit Laguna Canyon Foundation has been doing since 1990 to 20,000 acres of unspoiled land that includes Laguna Coast and Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Parks, Crystal Cove State Park and Irvine Open Space Preserve. The effort has involved repairing trails, restoring habitat and inspiring community members to join the preservation movement.

To celebrate the milestone, members and non-members alike are invited to the Nix Nature Center at Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, 18751 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach. There you will play games, enjoy bluegrass by Live Oak Review and enter for a chance to win an “ultimate staycatation” at Ranch at Laguna Beach. Tickets are $30 but, come on, it's a fund-raiser and kids 12 and under get in free.
