A Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office deputy is scheduled to be arraigned in Fullerton this morning for allegedly threatening and assaulting his girlfriend, including lighting her hair on fire. Alejandro Flores, 33, of Buena Park, is facing three felony counts of domestic battery with corporal injury, two felony counts of assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury, one felony count of aggravated assault, one felony count of criminal threats, one felony count of dissuading a witness by force or threat, and one felony count of false imprisonment by menace or violence with sentencing enhancement allegations for great bodily injury inflicted during domestic violence and the personal use of a firearm. A conviction could send him to state prison for 25 years and eight months, prosecutors say.

Flores lived with the woman and a child relative under two years old in Buena Park around Oct. 22, 2014, when he allegedly hit her in the face and broke her nose, according to an Orange County District Attorney's office (OCDA) statement that indicates the incident went unreported.
Then, this past June 28, Flores is accused of arguing with his girlfriend about the child's pacifier and pushing her into a wall in their home.
“The defendant is accused of hitting Jane Doe on the top of her head with his fist and grabbing her neck, causing the victim to fall to the ground,” reads the OCDA arraignment statement.
“The defendant is accused of dragging the victim into the kitchen after she attempted to get away from him. Flores is accused of forcibly holding the victim over the stove and turning on the gas burner, causing the victim's hair to catch on fire.”
After her hair was extinguished, Flores allegedly threatened her with violence if she contacted police or tried to leave the home, according to the OCDA. Further, he took away her mobile phone and threw the device at her leg with enough force to injure her, prosecutors claim.
When the woman tried to scream, Flores allegedly turned up the volume on the television, walked into a bedroom to retrieve his off-duty firearm and threatened her with it if she tried to leave the home, the OCDA claims.
The woman grabbed her child and left the home after Flores went to work, and reporting her nightmare to two relatives who contacted the Buena Park Police Department, which investigated and subsequently arrested the deputy.
