Keith Edward Froman and Martin Esquibel Aguilar Busted Separately for Bothering Teens on OCTA Buses
Two men have been arrested for separate incidents where teens were preyed upon on Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) buses, according to authorities.
The Orange County Sheriff's Department and Transit Police Services participated in the investigations that led to the busts.
The first happened on Nov. 4, when 44-year-old Martin Esquibel Aguilar was arrested on suspicion of stalking and child annoyance of a girl under the age of 14. Surveillance video showed that on several occasions in September, Aguilar sat next to the same girl and asked her personal questions. As the queries became more aggressive, the girl moved to other seats, but Aguilar allegedly followed her and became angry.
On one occasion, Aguilar presented the girl a flower, according to a sheriff's department statement.
Aguilar later pleaded guilty to child annoyance and was sentenced to 60 days in jail and three years probation.
Held in Orange County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail is Keith Edward Froman, 48, who was arrested on Nov. 9 for alleged child annoyance against a minor. Investigators used Froman's bus pass to trace his movements along the bus routes and to locate security film of his activities while riding, according to deputies.
Froman is accused of approaching and making lewd remarks to a male under age 18 at the Brookhurst and Lincoln bus stop in Anaheim. The boy walked away and onto the bus, but Froman allegedly followed him and sat next to him on the bus, where the suspect is further accused of having made overtures about drugs and romance.
"Our investigators will use every technological means and employ every element of good police work to protect our bus riders, and especially our young bus riders, from the predators who would harm them," Sheriff Sandra Hutchens vows in the statement.
