Jurassic Pooch! Solid Proof Out of Laguna Niguel That Dogs and Dinosaurs Lived Together
Can you make out the little guy?
An x-ray of Olive, a 7-month-old female Labradoodle out of Laguna Niguel, shows that dogs and dinosaurs lived among (and inside of) each other.
That is, they lived among (and inside of) each other if one was a modern-day doggy who shallowed a T-rex toy.
Janine McCaffrey Kahn, the Weekly's former web editor now finding fame and fortune as executive editorial director, Digital at I-5 Publishing in San Francisco*, passed along the results of Veterinary Practice News' annual "They Ate What?!" competition, "where veterinarians send in the most eye-popping radiographs their practices have encountered."
Vets Laurence Wahl of Laguna Grove Veterinary Hospital in Laguna Niguel and Heather Mineo of Veterinary Medical and Surgical Group in San Juan Capistrano sent in the x-ray of Olive, the labradoodle puppy who had suffered from several days of inappetence, vomiting and watery diarrhea, which was coincidentally the name of my garage band in high school.
"Abdominal radiographs showed a radiodense unidentifiable foreign body in the pylorus," the vets explain. "The dog was referred for endoscopy. The stomach was insufflated with air and re-radiographed. The mystery object was removed endocopically, and both the patient and T-rex are doing fine."
Bang a gong!
For looks at 26 golf balls in one Dobie belly, a 10-week old Lab who ingested the end of a fishing pole, a 6-month-old Lab who inhaled a door hinge and much, much more, check out Veterinary Practice News' "They Ate What?!"
In fact, the site is running a "People's Choice" contest, and all of Orange County and beyond is summoned to vote early and often for Olive and her T-rex toy at: http://www.veterinarypracticenews.com/they-ate-what-x-ray-contest/.
Hurry, Olive is falling behind a lizard that swallowed a Kong. And no, we are not on acid ... this time.
*Digital at I-5 Publishing is based in Irvine, which is where most of the editorial team works. However, the Amazing Ms. Kahn works with them from San Francisco.
