JT Holmes to Present Warren Miller's No Turning Back and Sign Posters THURSDAY

UPDATE, DEC. 3, 3 P.M.: Surfer and Hollywood stuntman JT Holmes will present Thursday night's screening of Warren Miller's No Turning Back and stick around the lobby of the Lido to sign posters. Holmes, who has a place in Santa Barbara, shot an unbelievable scene in the Alps speed riding with a parachute in the picture that begins rolling at 7:30 p.m.

ORIGINAL POST, DEC. 2, 7 A.M.: If our newest snow had fallen much lower in elevation, everyone would be more jacked about the 65th anniversary Warren Miller movie, No Turning Back, running at the Lido Theatre in Newport Beach Wednesday and Thursday.

But it turns out there is a local hook to the ski/snowboard porn's Alaska segment. That hook is Jess McMillan, who became a certified BASI Pilates instructor in Newport Beach and still has clients there.

(Read her BASI Pilates testimonials.)

McMillan is better known as the U.S. and World Freeskiing Champion. Meanwhile, No Turning Back also includes shots by Hollywood stuntman JT Holmes in Switzerland, like this one:

Warren Miller, who turned 90 in October, started making a ski film a year in 1949 and he wrote, produced, shot, edited and narrated Warren Miller Entertainment films through 1988. His son later took over the company that is now owned by Active Interest Media. The Boulder, Colo., company still sticks to Miller's strategy of renting halls and theaters around the country to show the “event” movies every December. These days Miller is the director of a private ski resort near Big Sky, Montana.

Warren Miller's No Turning Back includes footage from Greece, Switzerland, Japan and France, whose slopes are torn up by world-class skiers and snowboarders. Olympic gold medalist Jonny Moseley narrates.

Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the Lido, 3459 Via Lido, Newport Beach. Tickets, which are $18, can be purchased at the Lido box office, REI stores in Tustin or Huntington Beach or via www.warrenmiller.com.
