Jose Antonio Garcia Gets 40 Years to Life for Killing Wife Who Took Out Restraining Order


A husband was sentenced Friday to 40 years to life in state prison for the 2010
shooting and murder of his estranged wife in her Santa Ana home despite a court order requiring him to stay away.

A jury had found Jose
Antonio Garcia
, 38, of Santa Ana, guilty in June of one felony count of murder with a sentencing enhancement for
the personal discharge of a firearm causing death.

Despite 34-year-old Adriana Garcia having taken out a restraining order against Jose because of his jealousy-fueled rage, he went to the mother of five's home at
1402 S. Mohawk Dr., Santa Ana, the morning of Oct. 10, 2010, shot
her in the head, left her to die in a
bedroom and called 9-1-1.

When police arrived, he was sitting in his truck with his gun
pointed at his head. Following a nearly one-hour standoff with police
that ended after the man heard a tape recorded message from his father,
Garcia put the gun down, walked away from the truck and surrendered
without further incident. He still had the gun on him.



Adrina Garcia later died at the hospital, leaving her children, who were then ages 7 to 18, motherless..
