Johnny Law's End-of-Summer Orange County Anti-DUI Ops Run Tonight Through Sept. 5

While you're marking summer's passing with barbecues, Frisbee golf and Brazilian waxes, Orange County law enforcement rings in the traditional Labor Day weekend end of the season with massive anti-DUI operations.

And those operations start–gulp–tonight.

Orange County's “Avoid the 38” DUI
Taskforce, which is composed of the Orange County Sheriff's Department and city police agencies, has unveiled details of its
“Summer/Labor Day Holiday DUI Campaign.”

Some operations are traditional DUI/drivers license checkpoints where cars that pass through certain intersections are stopped and drivers are checked for signs of being tipsy or being without their drivers licenses.

Others are “saturation patrols,” where law enforcement resources are poured into specifically looking for drunken drivers in designated areas, generally places where boozehounds have been popped with frequency.

The following “Avoid the 38” list notes these assignments–as well as something presented as simply “DUI Taskforce operations”–with dates and locations:

Tonight: DUI Saturation Patrols, 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Saturday, in Anaheim, Aliso Viejo, Laguna Hills Laguna
Niguel and Laguna Woods.

Saturday: DUI/DL Checkpoint,
7 p.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday, in Anaheim.

Fri, Aug. 27: DUI/DL Checkpoint,
7 p.m. to 3 a.m. Aug. 28, in Laguna Niguel. DUI Saturation Patrols, 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. Aug. 28, in La Habra. DUI Taskforce Operations, 2-3 a.m., in Buena Park, La Habra and Placentia.

Sat, Aug. 28: DUI Saturation Patrols, 2-3 a.m., in Anaheim. DUI/DL Checkpoint, 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. Aug. 29, in La Habra.

Thurs, Sept. 2: DUI Saturation Patrols,
7 p.m. to 3 a.m. Sept. 3, in Placentia.

Fri., Sept. 3: DUI Saturation Patrols,
7 p.m. to 3 a.m. Sept. 4, in Orange. DUI/DL Checkpoint. 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.

“Avoid the 38” officials say the cities of Brea,
Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley, Lake Forest, Laguna
Niguel, Los Alamitos and Tustin will also be conducting extra DUI
Saturation Patrols during the enforcement
period.

provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety
through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
