Jim Gilchrist Seeks to Return to Columbia University, Where His Last Appearance Sparked a Riot

It's been a while since we've heard from our pal Jim Gilchrist, founder of the Minuteman Project and sworn enemy of Barbara Coe. He does pop up on our comments from time to time, where he smacks down true Know Nothings (as opposed to his misguided immigration philosophy).

But yesterday, Jimbo sent us an email to a story in the Columbia Spectator, the college newspaper of the Ivy League school, that states the campus' College Republicans want to invite him back. Last time he was at Columbia in 2006, a bona fide riot ensued in the auditorium where Gilchrist was scheduled to speak. Roll the tape!

The newspaper estimates the cost of bringing Gilchrist to campus, including lodging and security, would amount to about $1,500.

Gilchrist left his own comment selling himself to the Columbia student body, claiming “My appearance might also help to repair Columbia's tarnished image as an anti-free speech haven rife with bigotry, hatred, intolerance, ignorance. and other counter productive maladies common to fanatical extremists from both the ultra-left and ultra-right side of any debate.”

While we don't agree with Gilchrist other than our common enmity toward Babs, I do wholeheartedly support the chance to have him speak before a college crowd, uninterrupted. Better to let a speaker make a fool of himself than ustedes, coeds!
