The son got into a verbal argument with 62-year-old Frederick Dwayne Martin early in the morning of May 20,
2011, in their home at 21851 Newland St.

When the confrontation over Jeremy Martin's desire to keep a
firearm in the house turned physical, Frederick Martin called to ask the Huntington Beach Police
Department to send an officer over to “evaluate” his son, without mentioning the gun or the physical altercation, according to prosecutors.

Cops came to the home, but Jeremy Martin did not answer
the door. After the officers left, he shot his father one time, killing him. Jeremy Martin then called
911 to report the murder. He was arrested at his home without incident.
