Jered Weaver to Receive 1st Nick Adenhart Award at Big A Tonight

Jered Weaver will receive the first Nick Adenhart Award during tonight's game at the Big A against the Oakland A's.

Bestowing the award will be charged with emotion. Tonight also marks the one-year anniversary of Adenhart's death after pitching six scoreless innings at Anaheim Stadium.

The 22-year-old rookie, Henry Pearson and Courtney Stewart were
killed and Jon Wilhite was seriously injured in a traffic crash blamed on Andrew Thomas Gallo, who awaits a murder trial because he was allegedly drunk and had past DUI convictions.

The Angels dedicated the 2009 season to Adenhart and poignantly
honored his Big A memorial moments after clinching the American League
West crown.

The team created the annual award to honor Adenhart's memory.

It is awarded to the team's best pitcher as voted by
his teammates.
