The unidentified, 28-year-old jogger was attacked from behind around 9 p.m. Tuesday in the 3200 block of Bostonian Drive. She was stabbed three times before managed to fight off the knifeman, who took off on a BMX bike. With stab wounds to her face, arm and hand, she was treated at a hospital and is now recovering at home.

According to a release sent this morning by the Orange County Sheriff's Department, which patrols Rossmoor, “a lead was generated” through interviews with neighbors and surrounding merchants that led them to suspect Rivas. Deputies say he fit the attacker's description, rode a BMX bike and was known to carry knives.

An LA newscast tossed this allegation in this morning: Rivas is a devotee of a gangsta rapper imprisoned for murder.

Deputies say they set up surveillance on Rivas' home, where last year's Los Alamitos High School graduate lives with his parents and siblings and which is three blocks from where the attack occurred. After seen leaving the abode, Rivas was captured after a short foot chase and a knife was recovered nearby, say deputies, adding the weapon is now being analyzed by a crime lab to determine if it was used in the attack on the jogger.

Rivas has been booked into Orange County Jail on suspicion of murder, but the investigation continues, according to deputies.
