Gustavo's Latest KCRW “Orange County Line”: On the OC GOP's Diversity Efforts!

It is downright laughable to see how the OC GOP–long openly mocking diversity efforts by liberals as Thought Police pandering–turn downright Aztlanista in pushing minority candidates down the throat of OC voters for the coming June primary. From the assembly districts (Korean Young Kim running against Sharon Quirk-Silva to Salvi Ceci Iglesias running against Tom Daly) to the State Senate (Vietnamese Janet Nguyen running against Jose Solorio) to the Board of Supervisors (Korean Michelle Steel), the GOP's slate sounds like a UCI diversity panel hijacked by rightwing lunatics. That was the subject of my weekly “Orange County Line” commentary for KCRW-FM 89.9 this past Monday.

What I didn't point out was the OC GOP has always had its tokens–longtime GOP chair Tom Fuentes, Vietnamese candidates, maybe even a black guy one year–but this push represents the last gasp of Republicans to be relevant in majority-minority OC. Enjoy!
