Gustavo's Latest KCRW “Orange County Line”: On the OC DA's Love Affair with Gang Injunctions

This infernal rag has been reporting skeptically on gang injunctions ever since 2006, when managing editor Nick Schou took an in-depth look into Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas' first one, lodged against the Santa Nita gang. Nevertheless, Tony Rack has thrown them around with joy, with nearly all of them sticking. The one exception is in Orange, where residents of the city's historic Cypress Street barrio have not only been fighting the gang injunction since 2009, they recently beat it in federal court, sticking taxpayers with a $4 million bill.

Why is Rackauckas so in love with gang injunctions? That's the subject of my latest “Orange County Line” commentary for KCRW-FM 89.9
