Gustavo on KCRW: Why OC Needs More Black People!

If you've read me enough over the years–and of course you have! Ustedes love me so with your hilarious hating!–you'll know that one of Orange County's sins that embarrass me the most is the atrocious lack of African-Americans 'round here. As I've written before, out of the top 25 metropolitan areas in the United States, OC is the only one with an African-American community of less than 5 percent–and we're at 2.2 percent, according to the 2010 Census. Hey, at least that's better than our 2 percent from 2000, right?

I talked about this fact this Monday, on my latest “Orange County Line” for KCRW-FM 89.9.

The topic was OC resolutions for 2013, and I guess I should've had a long list–but the African-American bit just bugs me so. As I note for my second resolution, until we're a county that accepts everyone, we're going to be no better than Bakersfield. Shit, even San Bernardino is better than us in this regard–and they're bankrupt.

Anyhoo, the commentary!
