Gregory Ruiz Aguirre, Nabbed in Craigslist Underage Sex Sting, Gets Jail, Probation and Sex Offender Tag

The Huntington Beach Police Department has scored some high-profile arrests of alleged solicitors of sex with children through phony advertisements on Craigslist.

Now comes the latest sentence in the Surf City stings: Gregory Ruiz
Aguirre
, 53, of El Monte, just got 457 days in jail, 5 years probation and mandatory sex offender
registration for arranging to meet a “13-year-old girl” who was actually a cop. If Aguirre violates his probation, he will go away to state prison for four years, according to prosecutors.

Aguirre responded to the fake Craigslist ad on May 18, 2010, and then went on to exchange several sexually explicit emails with the fictitious 13-year-old girl. Through emails and instant messages, they discussed oral sex and other sex acts. They then set up a meeting in person.

On May 26, 2010, Aguirre drove to the arranged meeting place in Huntington Beach. Upon arrival, he was pulled over by a Huntington Beach patrol car and taken into custody.

A jury on March 2 found Aguirre guilty of one
felony count each of meeting a minor with intent to engage in lewd
contact, attempted lewd act on a child under 14, and contacting a child
with the intent to commit a specified crime.
