A Huntington Beach man is guilty of raping a 4-year-old female relative he was babysitting.
Due to the felony counts Gordon Ray Bodkin was convicted of and a prior strike for residential burglary in 2009, the 47-year-old could be sentenced to 55 years to life in state prison at a scheduled Aug. 30 hearing.

The jury determined he was guilty of unlawful sexual intercourse with a child under 10 and sexual penetration of a child under 10.
According to a statement the Orange County District Attorney's office issued before Bodkin's arraignment in September 2011, he was alone with the little girl the evening of Aug. 9, 2011, when he sexually assaulted her, including orally copulating, digitally penetrating and raping her.

When the girl's father arrived to pick her up, he found her naked on the bed and Bodkin standing over naked from the waist down. Bodkin grabbed his clothing and ran out of the house. Huntington Beach Police appealed to the public to help find the child rapist, and a tip led to his arrest as he tried to re-enter his apartment on Aug. 15, 2011.
Besides a very long prison stretch, Bodkin is expected to have to register as a sex offender for life.
