Garden Grove, Stanton and Villa Park Start Anti-Booze Patrols Tonight

Garden Grove Police Department's DUI Enforcement Team is deploying officers for special saturation patrols tonight and Saturday night to
crack down on drunken drivers. The Orange County Sheriff's Department is also holding the patrols tonight in Stanton and Villa Park.

With saturation patrols, police agencies generally flood streets where there have been repeated booze-related crashes and arrests.

“If
you drive drunk, Garden Grove PD will be looking for you,” Sgt
Carl Whitney says in a department statement about the operation. “If you're over the limit and we
catch you, you will be arrested.”

Funding for the patrols, which will begin at 5 p.m. each evening, comes from a California Office of Traffic Safety grant, through the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration.

The Garden Grove department just announced receiving a new $150,000 traffic safety
grant from the same state agency for another year of anti-DUI operations. Besides future saturation patrols, the grant will help pay for DUI/driver's license checkpoints and warrant searches in city limits.
