Fun With Mike Duvall's Honors, Awards and Recognitions
One thing you can say about Mike Duvall, the disgraced Yorba Linda Republican who resigned from the state Assembly last week amid a sex scandal, is that when he wasn't receiving lap dances from shapely lobbyists, he was lapping up awards, honors and accolades all across the state.
They began piling up in 2000, when Chapman University awarded the then-Yorba Linda City Council candidate the Ethics in America Award for his "demonstration of the highest standards of ethical integrity" as a community leader with the Yorba Linda Chamber of Commerce.
Earlier this year, the man who never graduated from high school received "100 percent" approval scores by the California Republican Assembly, the state's leading conservative outfit. In February, he was named "Legislator of the Year for 2008" by the California Attractions and Parks Association for his opposition to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's proposed "fun tax."
But here's a favorite: On Oct. 24, 2008, 800 people crammed into the Hyatt Regency Irvine to watch 14 people receive honors from the Regional Center of Orange County, which honored Duvall with the Elected Official Spotlight Award for the commitment that he and his family have to enhancing the quality of life for people with disabilities. The emcee that night was TV meteorologist Henry DiCarlo, who points to weather maps on KCBS/Channel 2 and KCAL/Channel 9.

Those are the same stations that broke the Duvall sex scandal alongside the Weekly's R. Scott Moxley. Small world.
Jimmy Kimmel does this bit on his late night show where footage of celebrities is bleeped at strategic points to make it seem as if the speaker is saying something inappropriate. This device also works splendidly with newsletters and press releases concerning honoree Duvall.

Regional Occupation Program North Advocate online: May 2009
Assembly member Duvall [BLEEP]ed with the students in the program, and asked the group how they felt about being [BLEEP]ed. "Do you have to be here, do you want to be here or do you get to be [BLEEP]ed?" He was happy when the majority of the students raised their hands to signify that they "Get to be [BLEEP]ed."
The students [BLEEP]ed the Assemblyman with a tool belt and hard hat.
