From the Folks Who Brought You No-God Billboards: Curated Viewings of Carl Sagan's Cosmos

Atheists: so hot right now. They've been erecting billboards, engaging with church folk and even showing up at high schools in Orange County to enlighten young people.

For their next act, the non-believers will be gathering at a San Juan Capistrano theater tonight to look up at the stars.

Backyard Skeptics, a grass-roots organization founded by Freethought Alliance director Bruce Gleason, has invited other non-theistic groups to monthly viewings of the late Carl Sagan's Cosmos, a hugely popular 1980 TV series that also spawned a bestselling book.

The viewing parties kick off this evening at the Regency Franciscan Plaza Theatre, 26762 Verdugo St., San Juan Capistrano.

Tyler Norden. A social hour in the theater's wine bar runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m. before the screening.

God vs. No God Debate Tonight

Besides opening minds, Backyard Skeptics and the Freethought Alliance support strong science education--and no creationism--in public schools.

It's Not a Sign From God: OC Atheists Spread the Word

"It's not too often that we confirm our existence in the world due to natural causes and not supernatural ones," Gleason says in a statement about tonight's screening. "Carl Sagan was a materialist who searched for his 'truth' by exploring nature thought science."
