Experts Kick Around Obama's State of the Union Speech

If you drop what you're doing and head over to Fullerton right now, you can catch a live viewing of President Barack Obama's State of the Union speech followed by a forum examining what the leader of the free world just said.

The global anti-poverty group ONE in Orange County presents the discussion aimed at “highlighting the crucial role the U.S. is playing in the fight against global poverty and disease, and the challenges that lay ahead as the world responds to the disaster in Haiti and a recovering global economy.”

Forum participants include UC Irvine professor Jeremy Heis and Christopher Neiswonger, a World Vision board member. Dr. Yama Azar of Orange County ONE moderates.

In response to the tragedy in Haiti, ONE has called on global creditors to immediately cancel the tiny nation's $1 billion debt and help give the earthquake-stricken country a fresh start by ensuring that new aid comes in the form of grants, not debt-incurring loans. To date, more than 150,000 ONE members signed the petition, which is being directed to U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, international finance ministers, the IMF, World Bank, Inter-American Development Bank and bilateral creditors.
