Driver Shot by Police Fleeing Crash Scene Dies
The motorist who was shot by police after trying to flee the scene of a high-speed, multi-car collision Laguna Beach Tuesday morning has died.
Colby Joshua Koenig, 25, of Foothill Ranch, died at Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo Tuesday night, the Los Angeles Times reports.
The six-car collision happened just before 8 a.m. Tuesday near Pacific Coast Highway at Saint Anns Drive. Witnesses said Koenig had been speeding north on the wrong side of Pacific Coast Highway and running red lights in a black Mitsubishi Lancer before crashing into several vehicles.
Koenig tried to drive off in the heavily damaged Lancer, according to police and firefighters who responded to the scene. Witnesses said Koenig appeared to be driving toward pedestrians around the time at least one officer fired multiple shots at him.
