Award: an accused lady thief swinging a tire iron to fend off her victims smashing her own car window or an alleged beer thief who broke his leg on the side of hotel and had to be lowered to waiting police?

According to Santa Ana Police spokesman Cpl. Anthony Bertagna:
A gardener was fetching breakfast at a doughnut shop in the 800 block of North Fairview Avenue in Santa Ana around 6:30 a.m. Friday when two men and a woman he did not know began pulling tools off his truck. A co-worker who saw what was happening tried to block the thieves' getaway vehicle.
"Bozo number one says, 'I'm out of here and takes off,'" Bertagna relates to City News Service. The second male grabbed a blowtorch off the truck to use as a weapon. The woman picked up a tire iron and started swinging it wildly, so wildly it smashed not only a window of the gardening truck but one on the suspect vehicle, which belonged to her.

Police arrived to arrest the pair identified as Peter Saul Rueda, 31, and Maria Guadalupe Caudillo, 40, both of Santa Ana. Actually, he initially told police his name was Fortina Rueda Jr., a 33-year-old family member. The couple was booked into the city jail on suspicion of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon, and their bail was $25,000 each. The third fellow remains at large.
Meanwhile, a couple men stole a couple cases of beer around 5:20 p.m. Saturday from a Santa Ana Mobile gas station then returned and took a couple more around 6:20 p.m. But the second time the clerk followed them to Embassy Suites at 1325 E. Dyer Road and called police.
Gabriel Anthony Sauceda
Cops tracked them to a party on the 10th floor of the hotel, but they got ... uh ... wise and tried to make an escape out the balcony and down the side of the building, jumping down one balcony at a time.
Chad Alexander Walker
Unfortunately, 22-year-old Gabriel Anthony Sauceda broke his leg in one of those jumps and had to be rescued by firefighters, who lowered him to the ground where he and his buddy Chad Walker, 20, were then taken into custody by Santa Ana Police.
The pair was later booked for burglary and taken to the suites of the Orange County Jail.
