Dennis Edgar Chailland is Robbed, Then Busted for Growing Pot

Not to be confused with the Santa Ana medical marijuana grower who was beaten and robbed before sheriff's deputies confiscated his remaining plants and cultivation equipment on Monday, a Garden Grove pot grower on Wednesday was robbed–and later arrested by responding police officers.

Dennis Edgar Chailland, 62, was booked into Orange County Jail on suspicion of cultivating marijuana.

Garden Grove police officers arrived at Chailland's home in the 12800 block of Magnolia Street just before 9 p.m. after receiving a report of a home invasion robbery in progress.

They discovered three people in the home had been tied up and blindfolded by an unknown number of robbers who demanded money. At least one robber may have had a gun.

One victim suffered minor injuries after a robber struck him.

Another bound person managed to get free and
escape through the backyard and into the neighborhood. That victim then called police to report the robbery.

It was unclear from Garden Grove Police Lt. Travis Whitman's press release on the crime if Chailland was among those who had been tied up and blindfolded. He did not know the answer when I asked him this evening and directed me to another officer who was unavailable as this was written. Once that is sorted out, this post will be updated.

What is known, at least according to the statement, is besides money, the robbers demanded to know where “the drugs” were located. Whitman indicated that more than 60 marijuana plants in different stages of
growth were allegedly growing on the property.

The bandits were in the process of
removing potted plants when they realized a victim had escaped, and they fled just before police arrived, according to the statement.

Police were also unsure if any plants were actually taken, but they do know a wallet containing cash, a laptop computer, and an Ipod were pilfered.
