Daredevil Travis Pastrana Rings In New Year With Long Beach Stunt
Before the clock strikes midnight on the East Coast tonight, Travis Pastrana will try to accomplish what's billed as "the first ever ramp-to-ramp car jump over water," with the Queen Mary in Long Beach as his backdrop.
Pastrana, the MTV Nitro Circus star who has won four consecutive Rally America championships, nine X Games gold medals and awes for the first double backflip on a motorcycle, plans to jump a rally car with Red Bull logos painted on it off the Pine Street Pier onto a floating barge anchored in Long Beach's Rainbow Harbor. If he succeeds, he'll break the existing distance world record of 171 feet.
You can watch for free at Pine Street Pier (entry to the viewing area starts at 7 p.m.) or on ESPN, which is scheduled to show Red Bull: New Year. No Limits live immediately following the Chick-Fil-A Bowl, which should end around 8 p.m. our time.
