Cop Chase Ends with Driver Leaping Off Freeway Overpass–But No Death!

You don't see this every day, as a cop or passing motorist: a traffic officer tried to pull a black pickup truck over for violations just after 10:45 this morning, but the driver gunned it, ran red lights and passed other vehicles by driving on the shoulder. The pickup then stopped at the side of the road near Bear Street and the 405 freeway, where the driver got out, ran to the edge of the overpass and jumped to the freeway below.

But the jumper did not die, going to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, where she was listed in critical condition.

As an attempted suicide victim, she is not being identified other than as a 33-year-old woman whose last known address was in Costa Mesa and is wanted in Los Angeles County on drug-related charges, according to the Costa Mesa Police Department.

Police are still collecting information, and if you know anything that can help call the Investigations Bureau's Sgt. Ed Everett at 714.754.5395 or Detective David Casarez at 714.754.5157.
