Ciprian Patrulescu and Paul G. Patrulescu in Court for Allegedly Beating 83 y.o. Woman
Two brothers who apparently followed a night of drinking with an early morning of beating--an 83-year-old woman!--are scheduled to be arraigned on elder abuse charges this morning.
Paul Grigore Patrulescu, 30, and Ciprian Patrulescu, 31, both of Costa Mesa, face a felony count each of inflicting injury on an elder adult at their hearing in the Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach.
A woman driving near Harbor and Baker Street in Costa Mesa around 4 a.m. Saturday saw two men approaching a small elderly woman who had been lying on a bus bench surrounded by her belongings, according to the witness statement given to police.
Concerned about what was going on, the driver turned around and approached the scene, at which time she claimed to see at least one of the two men punch the 83-year-old, who stands 5-foot-1 and weighs 90 pounds, in the face.
The driver yelled out at the men, and they fled on foot. She dialed 9-1-1 on her cell phone while the victim nursed abrasions and bruising to the left side of her face and left eye area. The old woman later refused medical treatment.
Costa Mesa cops, meanwhile, arrested two men nearby later identified as the Patrulescu brothers. The initial police report statedd they had been drinking at Patrick's Pub on Harbor, grabbed some more beers at a nearby 7-Eleven and were on their way to a nightcap of burgers when they became agitated at the 83-year-old for refusing to grab a bite with them.
It should be noted that Paul Patrulescu is 6-foot-1 and 275 lbs., and Ciprian Patrulescu is 5-foot-11 and 190 lbs.
If convicted, the Orange County District Attorney's office reports, the Patrulescus could get four years in state prison. Wonder how well their dinner invitation lines would be received there?
