Cindy Ann Su'a Gets Disputed 4 Years in Prison for Embezzling $350k from Anaheim Cop Union

As expected, an Orange County Superior Court judge sentenced an embezzling former Anaheim Police Association office manager to four years in state prison, over the objections of prosecutors who'd also complained about her tax-dodging husband's plea deal.

The Orange County District Attorney's office wanted 10 years for Cindy Ann Su'a, the Whittier's 47-year-old who stole $360,000 from her then-employer, forged documents and failed to file tax returns.

Su'a pleaded guilty on Aug. 26 to 117 felony counts of forgery, 23 felony counts of computer access fraud and two felony counts of willful failure to file tax returns.

Besides the prison time, Su'a was ordered to pay $400,000 in restitution to the Anaheim cop union, $105,000 to the state Franchise Tax Board (FTB) and $654,000 in fines.

Between August 2007 and March 2012, she embezzled more than $360,000 by using a typewriter correction feature to change her bimonthly paycheck from $2,489 to $5,489 or $6,489. Though her salary was set at $65,000 annually, in one year the union's only full-time employee paid herself nearly $200,000.

She also paid personal bills through the association's online bank account.

Her husband, John Su'a, pleaded guilty Aug. 26 to two misdemeanor counts of willful failure to file tax returns and was sentenced to 150 days in jail, three years of probation and ordered to pay $105,000 in restitution to the FTB–also over the objections of prosecutors.
