Bill Lockyer and Nadia Maria Davis Lockyer, California Democratic Power Couple, Split Up
State Treasurer Bill Lockyer has reportedly filed for divorce from his wife Nadia Maria Davis Lockyer, formerly an Alameda County supervisor, Santa Ana Unified School District trustee and rising star in the California Democratic Party.
The veteran 71-year-old politician cited "irreconcilable differences," according to documents filed in Alameda County Superior Court.
The 41-year-old daughter of the late Santa Ana immigrant rights lawyer Wallace R. Davis also made her mark as an Orange County lawyer, working on the team that freed young Latino Arthur Carmona, who had been falsely imprisoned for armed robbery. Nadia Maria Davis was also recognized by this publication as one of Orange County's most physically beautiful people.
And so, you can imagine our shock when she married the troll-like Bill Lockyer in April 2003. They have a 9-year-old son, Diego. And they seemed to be living the hella NorCal good life. In November 2010, Nadia Lockyer won her Alameda County Board of Supervisors seat thanks largely to $1.5 million pumped into her campaign by her husband's own coffers.
A month later, while battling a painkiller addiction spurred by injuries she suffered in a traffic accident, Nadia Lockyer entered a Kaiser outpatient rehab program. There she met Stephen Chikhani, a San Jose construction worker with a history of arrests for methamphetamine use. They would go on to have a torrid love affair.
Any attempt to keep their trysts secret failed on Feb. 3, when police rolled up to a hotel where Mrs. Lockyer had been roughed up. She wound up being hospitalized for head and neck injuries after allegedly being beaten by Chikhani, who later claimed to have acted in self-defense.
Different members of the love triangle traded accusations in the media. Bill Lockyer claimed his wife had ended the relationship but Chikhani was still stalking her. Chikhani claimed it was still on and that he had made a sex tape with Nads. Ms. Lockyer claimed Chikhani bashed her head into a stone and that her husband--the state's former attorney general--fed her drugs and suggested she kill herself.
She resigned from the Alameda County Board of Supes in April, saying it was for the sake of her son. Diego is also on Bill Lockyer's mind as he tries to quietly to obtain a divorce, according to the state treasurer's spokesman.
"(Bill) Lockyer wants two things," Tom Dresslar reportedly told the Sacramento Bee. "Above all, he wants the matter resolved in a way that serves the best interests of his son. Two, he wants it handled as privately and amicably as possible."
Amicably may be a tall order since the state treasurer is reserving the right to demand alimony from his soon-to-be ex-.
