Bicycle Dreams Rides into Anaheim

Bicycle Dreams, an award-winning documentary that follows men and women riding in the Race Across America, rolls into Cinema City Theatres in Anaheim tonight for a screening that benefits the Orange County Bicycle Coalition.

RAAM riders, as they are known, “deal with searing desert heat, agonizing mountain climbs, and endless stretches of open road go through,” says Bicycle Dreams director/producer Stephen Auerbach. “And they do it all while battling extreme exhaustion and sleep deprivation. It's a great subject for a film.”

To capture the racers, Auerback and his crew were embedded along the route with 18 cameras, which filmed day and night. For their efforts, Bicycle Dreams was a 2009 Newport Beach Film Festival selection, and the doc has ridden away with awards from fests in Fallbrook, Breckenridge, Yosemite, Grand Rapids, Red Rock, Los Angeles (All Sports LA), Moscow, New Zealand, Istanbul, Turkey, and Adelaide, Australia.

Tonight's screening begins at 7 p.m. at the theater at 5635 E. La Palma Ave., Anaheim. Tickets are $11 in advance at www.imathlete.com/events/bicycledreams, or $15 at the door.
