Behind the Orange Curtain sold out multiple screenings at last April's Newport Beach Film Festival, where it made its world premiere and wound up winning an Orange County Filmmaker Award. It was later named the Best Documentary Feature at the Metropolitan Film Festival in New York City.
Directed by Brent Huff, written by Huff and producer Zac Titus and inspired by South County mothers who lost children to drugs, the documentary shows Orange County coroner officials, first responders, psychologists, drug counselors, a Drug Enforcement Agency agent, several parents and current and former addicts delivering what executive producer Natalie Costa calls "a call to action." That is manifested into policy proposed by Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (R-Palm Springs), whose family has been touched by addiction.
