Attention, Polar Bears: HB Surf City Splash 2010 Wants You!
There's still time to give in to your desire to strip down to your bathing suit--the one you always wear under your jammies during the winter--and walk, run or dive into the chilly Pacific Ocean near Huntington Beach Pier with other die-hards at high noon New Year's Day.
Would knowing the nuttiness helps a nonprofit sway you to join?
The 10th annual HB Surf City Splash is free but participants are encouraged to make a minimum $10 donation to benefit the Huntington Beach International Surfing Museum. Online entry forms are available here, or you can register in person from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday.
Printed entry forms are also available at Rockin' Baja Coastal Cantina at the Bella Terra shopping center through Friday. Also through that date, 15 percent of all "Surf & Turf Bucket" bucket sales will be donated to the Huntington Beach International Surfing Museum (mention "Surf City Splash" while ordering your bucket.)
Also raising funds through food and the splash is the Lion's Club of Huntington Beach, which holds a pancake breakfast fundraiser from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on the south side of Zack's concession stand at Huntington Beach Pier Plaza. It's only $5 to enjoy delectables from the all-you-can-eat pancake bar. Proceeds benefit various Lions Club charities, including the surf museum and Canine Companions for Independence.
"It's amazing to see what started out as a small gathering of people 10 years ago, turn into a New Year's Day tradition for hundreds of friends and families in Southern California," says Lee Love, the Surf City Splash founder and organizer who also appreciates the charity tie-ins.
The schedule follows . . .
