Anaheim-Santa Ana Ranked One of the “Selfiest” Places on Earth by Time Magazine

The Anaheim-Santa Ana area is among the top places in the world for taking “selfies,” none other than the esteemed Time magazine claims. Sandwiched between No. 3 Miami, Florida, and No. 5 Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, is where you'll find Anaheim-Santa Ana at No. 4 in the Time rankings. Sorry, LA, that stunt by Ellen at the Oscars was not enough to get you on the list.

Oh, it's not that you didn't believe Anaheim-Santa Ana was ranked that highly, it's that you didn't believe Time magazine would lower itself to rank top cities for selfies. Gotcha.

Actually, it makes sense that section of Orange County would be a mecca for self portraits by cell phone camera given that's where you'll find Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm and California Girls Gentleman's Club.

Time has Makati City, the financial center of the Philippines, as “the Selfie Capital of the World.” At No. 2 is Manhattan.

Rankings are based on a Time database of more than 400,000 Instagram photos tagged “selfie” that included geographic coordinates. The photos were downloaded from the Instagram API in two sets of five days: from Jan. 28-Feb. 2 and March 3-7. In total, 459 cities were examined to determine “the selfiest places on earth.”

The Anaheim-Santa Ana area, which has a population of 660,793, boasted 1,222 selfies by 972 users, or
147 selfie-takers per 100,000 people.
