Deputies were called to the residence at 28 Paseo Viento, Rancho Santa Margarita, around 2:10 p.m. about someone trying to commit suicide, says Lt. Jeff Hallock, the sheriff's spokesman.

When deputies entered the home, they found a man suffering multiple self-inflicted stab wounds, a confrontation ensued with him and a deputy-involved shooting occurred, Hallock says.

The shooting victim, identified as Alec Ouzounian, was taken by paramedics to a local hospital where he later died, says Hallock, who adds no deputies were injured in the incident.

The Orange County District Attorney's office is investigating the shooting, as is protocol.
