UPDATE, SEPT. 13, 10:51 A.M.: Friday night's DUI checkpoint in Mission Viejo nabbed three motorists who were arrested for drunken driving, according to sheriff's Lt. Jeff Hallock.

ORIGINAL POST, SEPT. 11, 5:10 P.M.: The Orange County Sheriff's Department just announced there will be a sobriety checkpoint somewhere in Mission Viejo from 7 tonight through 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

In other sheriff-DUI news, the department sent deputies out Aug. 24 with dozens of outstanding arrest warrants in search of high risk DUI offenders, and the operation resulted in 19 arrest for alleged failure to show up for court dates or violation of terms of probation in outstanding DUI casez.

"The best bet for anyone with a missed DUI court date is go to court on their own now," avised Deputy Paul Villeneuve in a statement. "If you don't, that warrant isn't going away. We're going to come find you and take you to jail."

Those caught often face additional jail time for failing to appear in court or for violating probation.

Tonight's checkpoint and the August warrant search received funding from a California Office of Traffic Safety grant, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Email: mcoker@ocweekly.com. Twitter: @MatthewTCoker. Follow OC Weekly on Twitter @ocweekly or on Facebook!
