29-year-old Woman, OC Homicide No. 8: Sex Offender Charles Patrick Drew Held in Murder by Brutal Sex Assault
Before we move on to a truly ugly crime, I believe we can all agree that unless Moxley comes up with a better "winner," we have this week's Ugly Police Mugshot of the Week.
Transient, two-striker and registered sex offender Charles Patrick Drew, 62, is accused of murdering a 29-year-old woman during a brutal sex assault last weekend in a Stanton motel room, and he could get the death penalty with a conviction.
The woman has not been identified because she was a victim of a sex crime.
She was staying with Drew at the Motel 6 in Stanton, where--either Friday or Saturday--Drew is alleged to have raped, sodomized and orally copulated her by force. She died during the attack, according to the Orange County District Attorney's office (OCDA).
Drew is accused of trying to clean up the murder scene, walking outside the rented room and telling someone to call 9-1-1 because there was an unresponsive woman inside. The Orange County Sheriff's Department responded, and deputies eventually arrested Drew, who has two prior strikes from 1995 for forcible rape and assault with a deadly weapon.
Held without bail, Drew was scheduled to be arraigned today on one felony count of special circumstances murder in the commission of rape, sodomy, and oral copulation. He could get life in state prison without the possibility of parole with a conviction--or the OCDA could also seek the death penalty.
