After making waves in the trance community the Texas based duo Dave Reedand Chad Cisneroswho form Tritonal are about to embark in the biggest year of their career. At least that's what MTV Clubland thinks as they named Tritonal one of their artists to watch in 2013 last month. We got to chat with the American EDM artist backstage at White Wonderland before their New Years Eve set in anticipation of their gig tonight at Sutra in Costa Mesa. They were more than enthusiastic to share with us their past successes as well as what to expect from the duo this year.
Since their decision to join forces in 2007 Tritonal produced several remixes and original tracks which were supported by world renowned DJs such as Above & Beyond, Markus Schulz, Ferry Corsten and Gareth Emery on numerous compilations. Their single "Piercing Quiet" was even voted best track on Armin Van Buuren's A State Of Trance radio show. The rest is history as the duo globe trotted playing major clubs and festivals world wide while releasing their debut album and a highly acclaimed radio show Air Up There which led to their very own Air Up There Recordings. But today the duo is experiencing new forms of success and it's happening fast.
"We had six number one Beatport singles in 2012, played Creamfields, Tomorrowland, EDC Vegas & New York, Ultra Music Festival and it was amazing," says Cisneros. "We also released Piercing the Quiet Remixes which went to number five on the iTunes dance chart and we freaking had a blast." Tritonal jumped 20 spots in the DJ Mag Top 100 Poll to number 65 and joined Super 8 & Tab on a successful North American Tour last year as well. All while Air Up There Recordings released 17 new tracks and they held down their Air Up There podcast. The final 100th episode was streamed live on SiriusXM Electric Area with a sold out array of Tritonians cheering them on in their home town.

"The best part has got to be the festivals and touring we have gotten to achieve in the past couple of years. Especially this past year in 2012," says Reed. "We were really able to hit it off with Insomniac at events like EDC Vegas which was huge for us." Reed also explains that honing their sound has been an integral part of their success. Tritonal's signature progressive, melodic, sexy and vocal music is far from the realms of just trance. "We are all of those things but we are also evolving into more big room stuff," says Cisneros. "We like to do an array of stuff and you can tell that from our releases. They never really sound the same, but you can always sort of hear that it's Tritonal."
Armed with a variety of releases, the duo now has a new EP in the works with a new face-lift per say in the branding of their name. Their new podcast Tritonia will be featured on SiriusXM's Electric Area and DI.fm radio while they will continue to produce new music with the EDM elite. "We've had collaborations with artist like Rafael Frost and we are working with BT and vocalist Christina Burns," says Reed. "We were able to get to know each others musical personality and felt really privileged to work with him in the studio." Tritonal has more collaborations down the pipeline which they have to keep mum about because as Chad says, "they are fucking being held down by management."
Tritonal is slated to play Ultra Music Festival both weekends with a coveted spot on Armin's ASOT 600 stage. Yet don't expect them to get stale anytime soon. "I think if you are truly an artist then it's just innate in you to want to continue to create and creating the same thing over and over again is pretty fucking boring," says Cisneros. "The artists that we deem amazing are the ones that are able to continuously put out different sounding yet amazing records that continue to inspire and lead us down different paths." That's what you can also expect from Tritonal who work in new remixes, edits and mash-up for their gigs. Hopefully we can hear some new music in OC at Sutra as well!
